The OhioHealth Capital City Half Marathon partners with a variety of training groups that will help you prepare for the OhioHealth Capital City Half Marathon (13.1 miles), Quarter Marathon (6.2 miles) or Commit To Be Fit 5K (3.1 miles).
Marathoner In Training
Marathoner In Training is an official Half Marathon Training Program of the OhioHealth Capital City Half Marathon. Have you always wanted to run a half marathon? Are you looking to set a new PR?
MIT will teach you about running or walking in cool and cold weather, nutrition, goal setting, how to avoid injury, pacing, and much more. The MIT program will allow you to run comfortably without spending a great deal of time training or recovering! This training program is designed to prepare you for your best or your first half marathon — the proper way! You will be given a training plan to follow that will get you to the finish line healthy and happy! MIT's goal is to motivate, inform, and get you addicted to running/walking! Though many of our participants will have run before, the program is designed to accommodate all skill levels! So let's go! Team In Training (TNT) is thrilled to be an official charity of the OhioHealth Capital City Half Marathon! TNT is the flagship fundraising program for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. It's also the original sports training program for charity, and the only one dedicated to creating a world without blood cancers. The mission of Black Girls RUN! is to encourage African-American women to make fitness and healthy living a priority. According to the Centers for Disease Control, 80% of African-American women are overweight. Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Ohio (RMHC) serves families with seriously ill children by providing a home-away-from-home at the Columbus Ronald McDonald House. It is currently the largest Ronald McDonald House in the world after a recent expansion. Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Ohio creates, finds and supports programs that directly improve the health and well-being of children in Central Ohio. One of Ronald McDonald House's programs includes Team RMHC, a group of runners who train together and fundraise for the House and its families. Black Men Run
The Mission of the Black Men Run organization is to encourage health and wellness among African American men by promoting a culture of running/jogging to stay fit resulting in “A Healthy Brotherhood.” We believe we are needed because the numbers don’t lie:
- Among Blacks age 20 and older, 44.4% of men have Cardiovascular Diseases.
- In 2009, Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) caused the deaths of 21,051 Black males.
- Blacks have a risk of first-ever stroke that is almost twice that of whites.
- Heart disease is the #1 cause of death for African American males.
At Black Men Run we believe that running/jogging can change these alarming trends and we are here to encourage African American males to get out and be active. Research tells us that running on a regular basis not only benefits individuals from a physical standpoint but also increase mental sharpness.
